Waking with You

A Poem For Lovers

I wake
You are there next to me and I smile
Your eyes are closed, and the long light of the morning slants across your face.
Your breathing is light and even.
You sleep, but I know that shortly you will wake
And I wait

I have anticipated this
To wake with you
But in your bed, instead of mine
Through the window I see sunlight
And open sky, and far below, sparkling water

Your eyes open
Languid and unfocused
After a moment you see me
Your mouth curves
And your eyes soften

I reach to stroke your face
Fingers lightly across your cheeks
And down
Your lips part
And kiss/taste my fingers.
Your own fingers caress me
My waist, my hip, my breasts
Gliding over my skin

We have already made love, the night before
In frantic, consuming passion
Madly physical ardour.
Around the room are scattered the remnants of our previous evening
Clothes in random heaps,
A wine bottle, small foods
Ropes, a collar and a vibe

But this is different…

I want to embrace you
To caress and stroke you
I dwell in the no-mans-land between sexuality and sensuality
I watch the smile that lingers between your eyes and your mouth
The scent of you invades me
The glisten of moisture on your skin

And my growing realisation that you are ready for me
In turn, warms me within

We move, each to the other,
Arms enfolding, bodies entwining
Our kisses are unhurried
As you move over me, I open myself for you
Wanting you inside my body
Knowing I already have you inside my soul

You enter me,
And slowly, as you penetrate me, I sigh.
Our eyes meet.
Our bodies move in the gradual rise to climax

The sunlight ripples across us
The warm summer air is fragrant
Our mutual pleasure and joy is a reflection of a beautiful morning.

And after, we lie together
Each holding the other
The distant noise of the traffic does not intrude
And the reflection of water, rippling across the ceiling
Is at one with our mood

I yawn…
And I stretch…
and I reach across you, stroking your belly as I do so,
Kissing your forehead,
To turn on the coffee.

That was an amazing poem. It describes how I feel sometimes when I’m next to my husband but he’s all caveman.
