Second Audio Reading – Your Help Again, Please

James and Charlotte - Sample Taken From 'Partners'

Last week I asked you to take a few minutes out to listen to a couple of sample readings by potential narrators for my ‘Mastering the Virgin’ series.

There were two readings  – the same text of about 700 words, but by two different narrators. I asked you to listen to the two readings and to tell me which you preferred and why.

If you would like to read the original post, You Can See It Here.

Anyway, you gave me loads of feedback and a clear choice as to which of the two narrators was your favourite: Brian Meslar.

You also came back with lots of useful comments. For example, several of you mentioned that you thought James’ voice should be somewhat deeper.

On the strength of that, I went to the next stage and requested a further reading from Brian, incorporating changes based on what you said to me.

So, today I have a second reading for you: a sample taken from ‘Partners’.

It’s a much longer sample this time: about 33 minutes. The scene is of where James, having ‘bought’ Charlotte earlier that day at her auction, now ‘takes’ her for the first time.

It’s a red-hot scene, deliberately so. I chose it partly to be sure that James and Charlotte sound good together and also, to be fair to Brian, before we get in too deep, to give him an idea of what kind of books he will be narrating 😉

If you would like to read the text of the scene, you can Download a Copy Below.

What I Am You Asking For.

I would very much appreciate your feedback again. Please listen to the reading and let me have your thoughts.

Do you like Brian’s rendition of James? And of Charlotte? How do you think either might be improved? Any other comments?

You can give me your feedback using the button at the bottom of this post.

One more thing – depending on where you are and who is with you, you might want to listen to this with headphones.  Certainly, don’t let any ‘little pitchers’ anywhere near it. This isn’t one for the youngsters.

  1. Thea Craucamp says:

I enjoyed the deep voice of James, as well as the differerentiation in tone between speaking, narrative g and Charlotte’s voice. Keep the flow natural, don’t speak too slow. An excellent rendition!

  2. Leah Crosman says:

It sounds like he is trying to speak slowly and seductively. Perhaps trying too hard, his voice sounds gravelly/rough. Not the deep cultured voice I imagine for James.
    Charlotte’s voice is spot on.

  3. Beth Muzzie says:

I SO wanted to trade places with Charlotte! I wish I had lovers that were even half as dedicated to my pleasure as he was to hers! MUST BE NICE!!!

  4. Carol says:

His James voice is way to deep and also read to slow sounding unnatural but if he could bring it up a couple notches to a more natural deep and speed it up a bit, he would make a great sounding James. I actually liked his Charlotte voice and the ease of switching between the two voices. He would make a great James after a couple adjustments.

  5. Mae Ledford says:

Oh that was so good! I think he did an excellent job!

  6. patricia says:

definately thought they were British , do like deeper voice though.

  7. Lorie says:

I miss the British accent. I like the deeper voice but in my head, I hear James and Michael as British. The reading really makes the book come alive!

  8. Erin says:

Men reading for women is always a tough sell, but it’s easier to hear once you’re so sucked into the story itself. He did a very good job. Doing the voices of three characters is difficult so as long as Michael is British I don’t care what the others read as. Where is Charlotte from? Being that I’m American, and Simone is living in Spain, I hear Charlotte as American (I know she’s not) Michael as British and James as a Spanish/British accented person! Great choice!

  9. Richard says:

You better off have two voice actors one male and female it would come off more sexy.

  10. Margaret Battefeld says:

His voice is now hypnotizing. WOW!! I can close my eyes and feel what Charlotte is feeling now. Just don’t slow down the pace of his words too much. He did an excellent job with this deeper voice. The female voice portrays innocence yet sexual arousal. Can’t wait to listen to the whole book.

  11. Tree says:

Sounds good for James. Charlotte kind of freaked me out a little – definitely not the Charlotte I hear in my head. But overall he did a great job.

  12. Anna says:

He did a wonderful job. I missed the accent from before, but that must have been Michael’s voice. Is James American and Michael British? I had assumed both were the same nationality, but never thought about what nationality.
