Polyandry – When One Man Isn’t Enough

A Guest Post From Author Ellis O. Day

Monogamy, Polygamy and Polyandry
Oh My!

Usually, when we think of marriage we think of two — one man and one woman, two women or two men. The main factor is TWO, but that’s not always the case.

I’m sure we’ve all heard about Mormons and polygamy (one male having more than one wife or mate) as well as the sultan and his harem. But polyandry (one female and multiple husbands or mates) is not as uncommon as we once thought.

It used to be believed that polyandry only existed in a few remote cultures, but they discovered it was more widespread. Some of the reasons that anthropologists believe there has been polyandry in the past are:

  • Keeping the wealth in the family (one woman marrying all the brothers)
  • The “father effect” – children that have more than one father have a higher chance at survival.
  • Protecting the property — when the one male is away, the other is there to protect everything.
  • Great sex that stays fresh (okay, I added this one, not the anthropologists)

There are downsides too, of course, such as jealousy and loads of dirty underwear (just kidding about this one – kind of).

In today’s culture of kink, polyandry is making an appearance. Many women desire multiple males in their lives and they want those males to be devoted to them (one woman with many men).

One thing, that I sadly don’t find surprising is that polygamy is legal in many countries but polyandry is not (that doesn’t seem too fair, does it, ladies?). However, do we really need to get married? Can’t committing to each other without the legalities of matrimony be enough?

That’s what one man in this FREE Book does.

This is a series about three people (two men and one woman) who are committed to each other. Only one can marry Charlotte, but they both can love her and boy, oh boy, do they do that – in many different ways.

So, check out this free book and if you haven’t read any of Simone’s other books, here’s a link where you can download the beginning of this series (also free).

Enjoy! I know I did when I read the books.

“I don’t have time for games. Except sex games. Those I have time for.” He smiled—pure male, pure masculine.

Sarah would do whatever he wanted when he looked at her like that—all hot desire and need.

As soon as Nick sees Sarah, he knows he has to have her. Fortunately for him, she’s in the market for a temporary lover. Now, all he has to do is convince her that he’s the guy who can fulfil all her fantasies.

Sarah’s not ready for a relationship. She may never be, not after losing Adam but she does miss being with a man—the sound of his voice in the darkness, the touch of his hands, the warmth of his body wrapped around hers, the taste of his kiss. But picking up a stranger at a bar is dangerous and it doesn’t guarantee that she’ll get what she wants.

La Petite Mort Club is the perfect solution. There she can shop for a man—all rich, all clean and all with background checks. She has her list of candidates. All she has to do is choose the one she wants. It should be simple.

Then, she meets Nick. He’s hot, sexy and likes to play kinky games. He’s perfect for her except she wants him more than she should, more than is safe. She’s not sure that she’ll be able to walk away with her heart intact after six nights with him, and her heart can’t be broken again. It’d never survive.

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I would like to inform you that The Church no longer practices plural marriages aka polygamy yes at one point the Church did but not anymore. And please don’t refer to the Church members as Mormons anymore you can either call us members of the Church or LDS. As members we all strive to live the law of the land. Though I find it quite interesting the polyandry in word not in practice.

First of all, the author is correct in calling Mormons, Mormons, as they still exist. Maybe not in your church, but they are still prevalent in our culture and society. As for the Church of Latter Day Saints, not all follow the same dictates that your church does. Just as not all Baptists follow the exact same dictates. There are offshoots for every religion and for the beliefs that they each follow. Religion, in an of itself, is really all a matter of following the beliefs of the person in control, and NOT about the actual stories written in the original Bible text. It’s all a matter of an individual’s perception. If you are offended because your church once practiced polygamy, then don’t read books about it, including the Bible.
