‘Dancing’

The Girl Who Dances....

Dancing

Perhaps you have read the short story collection, ‘Trio’?

The stories inside are indeed very short, mere snacks of stories. The whole book weighs in at just over 9,000 words.

However, I thought you might like to know that in one of the tales, ‘Dancing’, although the story is fictional, the female character is not. ‘Dancing Girl’ is real, and the highway I describe in the story is about thirty minutes away from where I live.

There are indeed girls every half mile or so, each with a regular pitch, and I’ll admit that when I first moved here to Spain, about three years ago, I found it eye-opening.

Not, you understand because I have anything against the girls. Everyone has to earn a living and we are not all blessed with the same opportunities in life. And as far as I am concerned, so long as it happens between consenting adults, I don’t have a lot to say on the subject.

What does throw me is the sheer danger of what the girls are doing. Standing out, essentially in the middle of nowhere, with no one in a back room to see that nothing untoward happens, they step into the cars of complete strangers…

It strikes me as a terrifying way to make a living.

Having said that, Dancing Girl is there two times out of three as I pass by. I give her a wave and every time, she waves back.

Always smiling, always dancing, she shows every sign of living a life she enjoys.

I hope that’s true.

The collection is a FREE Download, so why not nab a copy?
